Aston Villa manager Unai Emery voiced his displeasure over the yellow card he received during his team’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal. This was Emery’s third caution of the season, resulting in a one-match touchline ban, sidelining him for Saturday’s clash with West Ham.
Emery was booked by referee Chris Kavanagh after kicking the ball in the technical area. The Villa boss defended his actions, stating he was merely returning the ball to the players.
“I don’t know why I was booked,” Emery told Sky Sports. “I kicked the ball, yes, but only towards the players. Next match I’m out—fine, I see that. But I didn’t deserve the yellow card.”
Villa’s Recent Form
Despite this setback, Villa’s form has been solid. Emery’s previous cautions came in consecutive home matches against Everton and Wolves earlier this season, both of which Villa won after coming from behind.
While their away record started inconsistently, recent performances suggest improvement. Villa clawed back a two-goal deficit to secure a draw against Arsenal and earned a midweek victory over Everton at Goodison Park.
Upcoming Fixtures
Villa face AS Monaco in their penultimate Champions League group game on Tuesday (5:45 PM) before Emery observes Saturday’s West Ham match from the stands at Villa Park. The following week, crucial matches against Celtic and Wolves await.
