‘99% out’ – Aston Villa’s second January transfer on verge of completion as manager approve deal

Aston Villa is edging closer to finalizing the transfer of Levante defender Andrés García, with Levante manager Julián Calero confirming that the deal is “99%” complete.

According to Birmingham World, Aston Villa has agreed to a €7 million (£5.9 million) deal with Levante for García. The package includes an additional €2.25 million (£1.9 million) in performance-related bonuses and a 15% sell-on clause. The talented full-back has reportedly already arrived in the West Midlands to complete his medical examination.

Despite interest from Portuguese champions Sporting CP, Villa emerged as the front-runner for García’s signature, as revealed by Sports Witness. The Spanish side’s ongoing Segunda Division campaign saw them secure a 3-1 victory over Granada this weekend, but they did so without García in the lineup, further suggesting his departure is imminent.

Levante’s manager, Calero, addressed the situation post-match, saying:

“I am happy for the group. I do not want pessimism to set in. Of course, if players leave in the market, we will not like it. Andrés is 99% out. But we will regroup and move forward.”

García’s Career So Far
Having graduated from Levante’s academy, García made his senior debut in 2022 at the age of 19. Known for his blistering speed, agility, and dribbling ability, the Spaniard is a versatile player capable of excelling as both a right-back and a right-sided midfielder.

Despite injuries last season, García impressed in his 24 appearances, becoming a pivotal figure in Levante’s push for promotion. This season, the 22-year-old has elevated his game further, contributing three goals and three assists in 22 matches—a record that makes him one of the most productive defenders in Spain’s second tier.

What García Brings to Villa
Aston Villa sees García as a vital addition to strengthen the right side of their defense, adding depth behind Matty Cash and bolstering their squad for multiple competitions, including the Champions League.

Spanish outlet Elders Marque lauded García’s physical prowess, describing him as:

“A physical beast, a locomotive, poisonous in attack, back and forth, and growing in defensive tasks. Andrés has innate qualities that at his age are a guarantee of success and an undeniable draw beyond the borders of Orriols.”

Villa’s Transfer Activity
This move follows Villa’s recent acquisition of Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund for £22 million. Manager Unai Emery continues to enhance his squad, aiming to secure a top-four Premier League finish and ensure competitiveness in European competitions.
