Sources: Aston Villa have now made contact to sign £38.8m Chelsea player

Aston Villa are stepping up their activity in the January transfer window, with fresh reports suggesting they have set their sights on Chelsea’s France international, Axel Disasi.

The Villans, already active this month, secured Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund in a £22 million deal. Additionally, they are set to welcome Turkish star Yasin Ozcan from Kasimpasa for £6.7 million.

Despite these additions, Unai Emery is reportedly keen to strengthen further, with sources informing TBR Football that Aston Villa have inquired about Chelsea’s No. 2, Disasi.

Villa Make Inquiry for Axel Disasi

According to Graeme Bailey, Chief Correspondent at TBR Football, Villa have asked Chelsea about the availability of the French defender, who seems poised to leave Stamford Bridge this month.

Chelsea signed Disasi for £38.8 million from AS Monaco in August 2023. However, the 25-year-old has struggled to impress under current manager Enzo Maresca, finding himself out of favor following Trevoh Chalobah’s recall from his loan spell at Crystal Palace.

In addition to Aston Villa, Juventus have reportedly made contact about signing Disasi. TBR Football understands the Italian giants are also closing in on Randal Kolo Muani, a target for Tottenham earlier this month.

Disasi a Potential Replacement for Diego Carlos

Aston Villa’s pursuit of Disasi could signal a contingency plan as Diego Carlos edges closer to a potential exit. Reports indicate Fenerbahce are confident of signing the Brazilian defender before the February 3 transfer deadline.

Carlos, who has featured in eight Premier League matches and five UEFA Champions League games this season, appears to have caught the Turkish side’s attention. Emery, however, is determined to maintain defensive stability at Villa Park, which may explain the interest in Disasi.

Permanent or Loan Deal?

While Villa’s inquiry confirms their intent, it remains unclear if they’re exploring a permanent transfer or a loan deal for the Gonesse-born defender. Given Chelsea’s willingness to offload him and Villa’s ambitions to push beyond seventh place in the Premier League, either arrangement could suit both clubs.

As the clock ticks on the January window, Villa fans will eagerly watch for updates, particularly as Emery aims to elevate the club’s standing and bolster their defensive options for the season’s second half.
