Report: West Ham turn to 23y/o tipped to ‘be one of the best strikers in the Premier League’

West Ham United are actively searching for a centre-forward following a series of injuries to key players in recent weeks. Michail Antonio was involved in a car accident, Niclas Fullkrug sustained another injury, and Jarrod Bowen joined Fullkrug on the injury list, further depleting the club’s attacking options.

In response, manager Graham Potter had to field attacking midfielder Lucas Paqueta in a makeshift false nine role during his first league match in charge, a win against Fulham. Despite these challenges, West Ham’s top priority now is to secure a striker, and reports from the Evening Standard suggest they have set their sights on Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz.

Muniz, currently behind Raul Jimenez in the pecking order at Fulham, is reportedly open to leaving Craven Cottage in search of more playing time. His potential move to West Ham dates back to the Julen Lopetegui era. The Brazilian striker earned attention at the end of last season after an impressive run of form, scoring eight goals in just eight appearances. Fulham teammate Willian even tipped the former Flamengo man to become one of the Premier League’s top strikers.

Although Muniz’s momentum has cooled off and he has struggled for game time this season, his name continues to appear as a viable option for West Ham. The 23-year-old has the potential to make a significant impact should he make the move to East London.

However, Muniz is not the only centre-forward West Ham are considering. Brighton & Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson is another exciting prospect. Having impressed during a strong 2022/23 season, Ferguson’s performances have dipped due to injury, but with his prior relationship with Potter, the Hammers may offer the platform he needs to rediscover his form.

West Ham is also reportedly eyeing Elye Wahi from Marseille, another striker on their radar after failing to adapt to Roberto De Zerbi’s tactics. Wahi was a player of interest to West Ham before his move to Marseille, so his name could resurface this winter.

Additionally, Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi, currently struggling for game time behind Chris Wood, has been linked with a move to West Ham. The Nigerian international’s robust style could be a fitting addition to the Hammers’ attack.

As the January window progresses, West Ham are exploring several potential striker signings, with Rodrigo Muniz among the most prominent candidates. West Ham supporters will be hoping for swift reinforcements to help the team climb into the top half of the Premier League table.
