Aston Villa has received an approach from Galatasaray for defender Diego Carlos, signaling the Brazilian’s potential departure from the Premier League club in January, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Negotiations have commenced between Villa and the Turkish club, although Carlos, with just over two weeks remaining in the winter transfer window, reportedly has multiple options available.
Despite earlier reports suggesting a swap deal involving Sevilla’s Loic Bade, Carlos is not expected to be part of Aston Villa’s pursuit of the La Liga defender, as confirmed by Romano.
After securing Borussia Dortmund’s Donyell Malen, Aston Villa appears poised for a busy conclusion to the transfer window, particularly targeting reinforcements in defense.
Diego Carlos, a 31-year-old center-back, was heavily linked with a move away from Villa Park before the season but remained and has since proven himself valuable under Unai Emery’s guidance this campaign.
Having made 17 appearances across all competitions, including 10 in the Premier League, Carlos boasts a pass accuracy of 88.6% and averages 0.87 tackles and 0.54 interceptions per 90 minutes played.
With his contract expiring in June 2026, Aston Villa is unlikely to recoup the £26 million they paid Sevilla for Carlos in 2022, making his potential departure a strategic consideration for the club.
Currently positioned eighth in the Premier League, Villa faces Everton on Wednesday amid efforts to bolster their squad defensively, with reported interests in Sevilla’s Bade and Celta Vigo’s Oscar Mingueza.
